How donations are used
Funding is necessary for set up and operational costs of the daycare centres. It provides furniture (tables and chairs), cookware, stoves, health and educational supplies, teacher training, infrastructures like safe sites and classrooms, cooking and bathroom facilities. We do not pay rent, food or teacher salaries.
Money; as opposed to donations of toys and clothes has proven to be the best form of help. Over the years we have learned that it is much easier and cost effective to purchase in the local communities rather than setting up shipments of supplies from Canada to Guatemala which requires time, lots of logistics and costs incredible amounts of money in transportation fees. By purchasing locally as much as possible we are helping local vendors support their families. Therefore; the “money” provides a double benefit.
We also purchase traditional crafts from the local communities that we sell at craft fairs in the Ottawa region in order to raise funds. Send us an email to be informed of our next craft fair.
