March 5th 2017 update Dr. Gold and Dr. Eddy arrive

Finally, we have stopped long enough to connect to the outside world and wanted to send you some pictures.
The medical and teacher workshops were a tremendous success! Thanks so very much for all the work you put
into the new medical forms and the teacher classroom kits. I loved the teacher kits, Laura and think they were the
best yet. The teachers loved all the stencils which even the older kids can use for their homework projects at the
elementary school. Your team did a lovely job. A big thank you and hugs to them all from me and all the teachers.
It was really nice working with a small team which meant that we had fewer moms and kids to deal with each day. Involving some local medical experts was a terrific idea and they have agreed to stay involved in future and provide followup for people needing it. One local doctor from San Pedro showed up with a whole entourage and a portable sonar machine for ultrasound to examine our pregnant mums. What a thrill for them to "see" their babies before birth.
The camera was fun, too and helped us avoid mistakes with some of these kids having very similar names.
Ten new water filters were distributed to mums from our centre yesterday as well. The distributor, Jose, came
to discuss proper care and useage of the filters, demonstrate how to assemble and clean them and answer any
questions the families had. Each family paid 25Q in order to secure  a filter. This is a significant payment in this
community but ensures the families commitment to owning a filter. Every single mum made a point of coming over
to have their family members personally thank us for helping them achieve better health with the gift of the doctor's
visit, treatment and medicine and the water filter. Really wish you could have been here to witness just how
important a gift this was for these families.
The play yard was also reconfigured to allow for more space for the kids to play. The back part was leveled to
provide fill under the swings and around the slide. Now it is safer for the smaller kids. A field, of sorts , was then
created for the boys to play soccar. The turtle tire structure was removed and the tire used to border the soccar
field. Another grassy area was created near the slide for quiet activities. Very nice.

Dr David Gold from Wakefield, Quebec, Canada working with nurse, Tita Jimenez from San Pablo, Guatemala to examine the kids from SaludosNinos! Feb 27 th to March 3rd. in Panyebar.

Dr Eddy arrived with an entire medical team and a portable sonar machine to provide ultrasound for some pregnant mums. What a thrill for those mums to glimpse their unborn babies.
The full team this year, including our volunteer nurse, Myriah

Dr. Eddy is continuing his involvement with Saludos Ninos early learning and nutition centre. Wow, we are so happy to have both he and Tita to provide assistence in the future.
