January 25th 2020 update. New financial partners. New egg a day program.

We are pleased  to  announce "Mayan Partners" will take over the salaries for the teachers and cook.
This will  take pressure off Saludos Ninos to find all the money each year.
Work is underway to dig a reservoir for the kitchen water runoff. It had to be 16 feet deep,so extra care was taken yesterday to keep the kids inside so none of them fell into the hole. Some of the dirt is being used to level out the yard, but most was carted away to make room for the layers of sand needed to filter the grey water.

Justin and Michelle , are here for 2 more weeks. Justin will help me do a financial statement
on line and Michell is taking pictures, helping the kids in the classroom and is keen to fund a program called "an egg a day". Our kids will be given an egg a day per week to help improve their protein levels. Luckily,
friends of Ann and Kent have just begun an egg operation on the very next piece of property up from Saludos NINOS, so there is our egg source. It certainly could not be any CLOSER!!

Our Saludos Ninos board members , Ann and Kent from CALIFORNIA were just here for 5 days
which was very nice as they have good Spanish so we got many things sorted out .
A medical clinic is being organized for Feb 11 here a visiting doctor will examine all our kids and members of their family who need to be seen. Meds will be made available to those who need them.
The bookcases need to be painted in each classroom and workers are in this Saturday to do just
that. Then perhaps the next weekend, the interior of the classes will be painted and some exterior, too.

January 18th 2020 update

Today, we held a meeting with all the teachers, plus Ann and Kent, Paty and Rosario, Sheila and Brian to discuss program changes for this year during  Delores' absence and the pending birth of Rosario's child in early March. We learned about the new Magical Aula program  and were thrilled to see the teachers' enthusiasm to implement this curriculum. We also  began to organise  events like the medical clinic and water filter workshop, distribution of filters for new families, clothing and shoes for those in need and plans for general maintenance of the property and classrooms. A wonderful beginning to a new year.

Showing the different work centres

The teachers are thrilled to use the Magical Classroom materials. This is the second day of CLASS!

Two older kids demonstrate the dance moves shown on the screen. The kids love the music videos they work with. The classrooms were organized into various "centres". This year the kids are from 2 to 5 years old, which allows much more learning to take place with a more homogeneous  group.

January 15th 2020 update

School has begun for another year.
Here is the picture of one of the students enjoying the new puzzle in Aracely's class.

Next is our our teacher, Cesy who is temporarily filling in for Delores during her recovery. Paty who used to work with us for years has come back to help out.

Things are in full force for another year.
Maria and a helping mum have a full larder and are busy preparing a tasty meal using both stoves

The classrooms are all organized and the kids are working as a group, already on day 2 of school. Impressive.
We have wonderful, dedicated teachers.

Different classroom setups

Board members Ann and Kent arrive from California for 4 days. Mateo, Anne-Marie and  a new volunteer Rachelle arrive Feb. 1st. We are putting in  a living fence which is fast growing bushes. Dr.Israel will run a medical clinic for us in Feb.
